The Abaco Club On Winding Bay's Golf Course Ranked #1 In The Bahamas By Golfweek

Abaco, The Bahamas , – November 30, 2007 –In a poll conducted by Golfweek's panel of raters, the Scottish–style tropical links at The Abaco Club on Winding Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Managed Club, earned top honors of all golf courses in The Bahamas.

More than 300 raters set out to determine the top 50 places to play in the Caribbean, Atlantic and Mexico, and they selected the 18–hole, Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie–designed course to not only make the list for the first time, but was also 10th among all those chosen.

Founder and Chairman of The Abaco Club, Peter de Savary, collaborated with the architects to create this stunning course. The 7,183–yard par 72 challenge includes a 547-yard par 5 – the third longest hole on the course – after which the course plays for seven holes along the beach.

In addition to the Member–only golf course, The Abaco Club provides real estate options from home sites to two, three and four–bedroom cottages, as well as boasts activities such as deep sea and bone–fishing, horseback riding, tennis, spa treatments and snorkeling.

"We are delighted to be included in such an outstanding group of courses," said de Savary. "Since its opening in 2005 many of our Members – including touring professionals and celebrities – and their guests attest to the course's challenges that naturally combine with playing the weather elements, which are so much a part of links golf."

According to Golfweek architectural and ratings panel editor, Brad Klein, "Few golf courses in the world, let alone in the Caribbean, make better use of the intriguing ground between native dunes and raw beachfront. The Abaco Club on Winding Bay garners high praise among Golfweek's best raters for the natural shoreline walk."
