The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa, Jupiter “sizzles” at First Annual Member Barbecue Cook Off
JUPITER, Fla. - March 22, 2007 – The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Jupiter will host the First Annual Member Barbecue Cook Off on April 22 to benefit Palm Beach Harvest, a nonprofit organization supporting local food banks and soup kitchens. The inaugural event will feature food stations and refreshments near the pool; face painting and a bounce house for kids; popcorn and cotton candy; live music; and a silent auction. The day’s feature event will be a competition between five of the Club’s Members for the best barbecue sauce, ribs and slaw. A panel of judges, including former NHL star and honorary Member, Dan Quinn, will select the winning recipes. Winners in several categories will receive prizes, and the Grand Barbecue Champion will win a trophy and “bragging rights” for the year.
“This event is meant to encourage a spirit of friendly competition, while helping an important charity in our community,” said Kenny Gilbert, executive chef and director of food and beverage for the property.
The Barbecue Cook Off is open to Members and their guests. Proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will benefit Palm Beach Harvest. This event is part of The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa’s Community Footprints initiatives, which is a global, Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company program that encourages partnerships with local organizations to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
“Fifty-two percent of all people in Palm Beach County live at or below the poverty line, and 83,000 people miss one or more meals per month because there is no food available to them,” said Deborah L. Morgan, executive director of Palm Beach Harvest. “We deeply appreciate the commitment of The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa, Jupiter to join us in our quest to feed those that are hungry.”
